6 February 2025

Beans, lentils, peas: they may be small in size, but they have a big impact! During the second edition of BEANMEAL, which will take place from Monday 10 to Sunday 16 February 2025, we will inspire the whole of the Netherlands to put legumes on the menu more often. Join in, discover new recipes and contribute to a healthy and sustainable diet!

By choosing a BEANMEAL you can enjoy delicious dishes and contribute to a more sustainable food chain. In a BEANMEAL you process legumes, preferably from Dutch soil. Did you know how versatile legumes are and how delicious it is to eat legumes in your dishes? A good reason to participate in the BEANMEAL, kicked off by World Legumes Day on February 10. This year's theme is BEAN ROUTINE. Choose your own BEAN ROUTINE and enrich your meal with legumes!

About BEANMEAL

BEANMEAL is a collaboration of parties with the aim of activating the Dutch consumer to a meal with legumes. In the Netherlands, we only reach half of the daily recommended amount when it comes to the consumption of legumes. Stimulating the consumption of legumes to an average of 150 grams per person per week contributes to a healthy balance, for people, animals and the environment. By getting more proteins and nutritional value from a vegetable source such as legumes, on average less animal protein in the form of meat, fish and dairy can be eaten. More variation contributes to a healthy balance in the diet.

With BEANMEAL we help by inspiring with recipes and showing how tasty, versatile and affordable legumes are. You can find recipe inspiration via the recipe platform of Eatertainment and with outdoor screens around supermarkets BEANMEAL is made visible at the moment of purchase. BEANMEAL is mainly an activation of the partners themselves. For example, you can find a tasty recipe with legumes in the online folder of the LIDL. At Ekoplaza you can try lupine balls for a soft price and at Ekoplaza Almere you can choose your favorite food pairing of a vegetable and legume with a matching recipe by Joeri Veul, known from the cookbook Heilig Boontje. At Albert Heijn you can get acquainted with the field bean burger from ME-AT for a (plant)friendly price. In the (company) restaurants of Vitam, Hutten and the educational locations of Compass Group and Eurest you have plenty of choice from a dish with legumes. BOON, together with Dutch Soy and Foodvia, is opening the BOON pop-up restaurant in the heart of Arnhem! A unique opportunity to taste how surprising and delicious a BEANMEAL can be. At the Tuinen van MergenMetz, in collaboration with Lekker Lupine, Het Groot Peulvruchtendiner will be provided on 9 February and in Regio Foodvalley they will be organising a bean inspiration stall at six weekly markets. During the Bean Meal week, HAK will focus extra on inspiration on social media, including through influencer content. Curious about what else is on offer?
